Are memes promoting taboos?

It's 2019 and everything is a meme these days. Meme culture has spread throughout the world and memes possess a power to create an impact in the society.

If we look globally, it has been quite a time that meme culture has gotten popular and it has been adopted well by people. Looking on to Nepal, we have clusters of people following memes. Those who have been here with the global trend, to those who have just started liking memes. The contrastment in opinions among the people has created contrasting taste of memes. And opinion varies from people to people to how memes should be. Offensive memes are still not digested by a large group of people but a small mass who loves those kind of memes are very specific about what they want.

Comedy doesn't have its limit, taste of humour varies from person to person and it will be unfair to say only a specific taste is right.

Drawing the line in comedy probably never makes sense. I don't like bitter doesn't mean nobody should like it. You don't like spicy doesn't mean I can't have spicy. It is just about the taste. Drawing the line and starting to judge on the basis of a certain taste can be more dangerous than racism. And this seems to be happening somewhere near.

There was an article posted on ekantipur very recently about how memes are promoting racism, rape and various social taboos. They exemplifed how nepali "Dank" Pages are promoting taboos in name of Dark Humour.

I personally don't agree with this. This will be as senseless as saying, the character of  Hari Bahadur, Dhurmus etc. back then in Nepali 'Sarcastic' comedy teleserials  promoted the antisocial activities in the society. Normalizing talk of the rape won't promote rape. A joke on Dahej  doesn't encourage people to ask for dowry. They are taboos, they are to be eliminated and for that we need talks over those.

If we can't accept the problem to exist then how can we even handle them?

It would be more than a ridiculous thing to say a girl in the far west  is in the Chhaugoth just  because some one made a period joke on social media. These things exist here since a long time and memes aren't promoting these.
To eradicate these stuffs we need a talk over the mass, more people awared = more ways to eradicate and memes are probably most effective material to take these stuffs to the mass and enhance the talk on it.
